FEA
FEA is a computerized method for analyzing the behavior of a product, structure, or system under various conditions. It is used in engineering to optimize the design, identify potential failure points, and study the dynamic behavior of a system. FEA helps engineers design safer, more reliable, and more efficient products.
Wind Chime
Tasked in making a singular metal chime suspended from a point at a vibrational node, to be used as a medical device. The chime is required to resonate at the specific note ‘F’ in the 6th octave, the equivalent note being 1397Hz. FEA Analysis allowed me to locate the correct length of the chime and where the suspension point where to be located.
The result to the left showed the the chime resonating at the correct frequency. These results were then verified with analytical calculations.
Bicycle Crank Arm
Simple Crank Arm
Initial Stress testing of simple block
Topology study of Simple Crank Arm, which removed any uneccessary material from the crank arm
Design study of Manufacturable Optimised Crank Arm to verify position of the weight reducing holes.
Static test of the Optimised Crank Arm to ensure design did not exceed the yield stress of the material & could withstand the tortional effects of the user applying pressure to the pedal and therefore the crank arm.
Final Manufacturable Optimised Design
Camping Mug
Drop Test simulated the mug being dropped from a height of 2M produced satisfactory results. The design held up well and did not exceed the Von Mises stress of the material and so would not break if dropped from this height. Two tests were completed; one where the mug fell directly vertically down, and the second with the mug falling on it's side.
